The region of Trier, with a population of 245,100, created an energy plan in 2010 to shift from a long-term energy-importing to an energy-exporting region. The plan has a 100% renewable energy target by 2050 with a combination of energy savings, achieve an increase in energy efficiency and renewable energies.
In 2010, the region already produced 50.8% electricity from renewables. The Energy Agency Region Trier is a driving force, founded to support and consult the people and municipalities in the region.
